BARCELONA LAB OVERVIEW

One-week experiences in cities that have taken the practice of City-Making to a higher level. In this case, the city is Barcelona. The participants will be able to know about the city and its main projects, get access to its institutions, and interact with its managers.

THE PROGRAM INCLUDES:

Talks, Panels, Round Tables, Specialized Visits, Urban Tours, and Networking Events.

Participants from different parts of the world meet to exchange
knowledge and inspiration.

OPENING SESSION
Welcome Session The CityMakers Initiative and the Barcelona Lab, followed by the introduction of the selected participants from all over the world. By Victor Torres and Camilo Osorio, The CityMakers Cofounders City Talk The Superblocks of Barcelona, a new urban cell that has reorganized the mobility of an entire city and has given back to the citizen the public space previously stolen by the car. By Salvador Rueda, President of the Urban and Territorial Ecology Agency.
SESSION 1
City TalkThe 22@ Innovation District in the urban post-pandemic era, by Jaume Barnada, Coordinator of International Relations Projects, from the City Council of Barcelona. We will visit the Barcelona City Council so that the creator of this district will tell us about their conception and success
SESSION 2
City VisitThe 22@ Innovation District and The Glories Square, by Andri Tsiouti, Teacher and Researcher from The Barcelona-Tech and Expert in Cultural Landscapes. This district has renovated a marginal part of the city, welcomes thousands of startups and tech companies and proposes a new way of building the city

City TalkThe New Sustainable Mobility Strategy and The Metropolitan Public Space, by Xavi Tiana, International Relations Director, Albert Gassull, Public Space Director and Marc Iglesias, Sustainable Mobility Service Director, from the Metropolitan Area of Barcelona – AMB
SESSION 2
City VisitThe international winner project of Parc de la Solidaritat, a large platform-park that has united two neighborhoods and members of the same families previously separated by a large highway. Guided visit by Albert Gasull, Public Space Director, from the Metropolitan Area of Barcelona – AMB

3R WorkshopRenaturing Barcelona, Renaturing my City (Session 2) Tutors to be confirmed)
SESSION 1
City VisitThe Superblock of Sant Antoni, Eixample District, by Marta Sola and Jokin Santiago, Leku Studio Cofounders. We will have a walk around this project, that shows a process of tactical urbanism that was adopted to turn this city-model into a reality
SESSION 2
City VisitThe Hidden Gardens, Eixample District, by Cossima Cornado, Expert in Eixample District from the Polytechnic University of Catalonia-Barcelona Tech. The Eixample District of Barcelona has about 400 blocks, of these, about 50 have built parks inside that are increasing the public space of the city

SESSION 1
City VisitParc Fluvial del Besos (riverside projects) and Parc del Forum, by Albert Santasusagna, Expert in Water Management from the Barcelona Water Research Institute. The Parc Fluvial del Besòs is a masterful environmental initiative that, as a consequence, has expanded the public and green space of Barcelona
SESSION 2
City Visit (by bike)Active Mobility Projects in Poblenou: against Climate Change, by Alejandro Martín, Urban Mobility Expert, from the Barcelona City Council. We will have a ride around the Poblenou Neighborhood to see some projects that are helping to fight against the climate emergency
SESSION 3
Closing SessionPresentation of the outcomes of the 3R Workshop Renaturing Barcelona, Renaturing my City and sum-up

INCLUSIONS

All the activities of the program: talks, panels, urban itineraries, specialized visits, city experiences and networking events.

Public transport card: within Barcelona and private bus for activities outside the city.

Coffee breaks (due to Covid-19 potential restrictions, all of the events that are meant to be for networking and sharing with other people, will be subject to evaluation according to the pandemic situation at the Lab’s time).

THE FEES DOESN’T INCLUDE: Airline tickets, accommodation and food and medical insurance.

GUARANTEES

Total refund up to 2 weeks before the lab: If the accepted participant notifies us that he/she can’t attend the Lab up to 2 weeks before the lab starts, and has already paid the total amount, he/she will be able to request a refund with no explanations needed (except €100 EUR non-refundable for administrative costs and transfers fees).

Refund of 50% for not satisfaction: During the Lab, if the participant is not satisfied, he/she may request at the end of the second day, a refund of half of the total paid with no explanations needed.
